VOTE AB FOR DPE
Hi Fellow Learner!
Thank you for taking the time to participate in the student elections, and specifically considering to vote for me, to improve educational outcomes at Imperial for YOU and ALL students.
Imperial’s new Teaching and Learning Strategy promises to enhance the educational experience & quality for students. There is significant funding for department-wide curricula and pedagogic (i.e. teaching) transformation. It is imperative that this translates to a better learning experience and learning outcomes for all students. Unfortunately, according to recent student surveys, we have been moving in the wrong direction in some key areas, and this must change.
Your vote will ensure:
Assessment & Feedback
The National Student Survey (NSS 2018) and Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES 2018) scored 64% and 58% respectively in this area. These are worrying figures, particularly for 1 year masters students. I will work hard with departments (and courses) to ensure clear assessment criteria and quality, timely feedback on all your coursework and assignments.
Student Engagement in Curriculum Reviews
This year saw the UG Curriculum Review take place; next year will see the PG Curriculum Review. These directly affect what students learn and, moving forwards, it will be critical to make sure of your student engagement in this process, particularly from postgrad taught students, next year.
Ensure Accurate Reporting
The college intends to evaluate and research innovations in education, and to publish outcomes. I will make sure reporting is done in a reliable and transparent manner; moreover, to ensure that innovations result in a tangible, better student experience (and results!) for you.
Postgraduate Research Experience
Often a neglected, yet significant, part of the Imperial community. I would like to make sure ‘innovations in education’ are also applied to the research student experience. This includes offering services and experiences to the other Imperial campuses. Furthermore, I would like to ensure careful consideration and consistency across departments with respect to the PhD ESA/LSR milestones.
